Medical spouse website

Just while it's on my mind, all of you medical spouses out there, check out this blog: http://doctorwives.blogspot.com . I find lots of useful and comforting info from this group.

Random Rambling

I just dropped Aisley off at school (that seems to be going a little better even though she is still very hesitant) and put Hayes down for a nap. The house is actually quiet and I've given myself a few minutes to play. There's a battle going on between Pintrest, (www.pintrest.com or clean on the button to the left to follow me) the dishes, laundry, and working out. I think I'll reward myself with 15 minutes of play for every 15 minutes of work. We'll see how much I actually get done. :)
Wednesdays we go to Christian Moms Group at church. I have to admit that I've never actually done the Bible study even though I always buy the book and have good intentions. I figure that I'll have a great library going when I decide I can get back to reading.
When we pulled into the church parking lot this morning, AGW said "I have a baby growing in my tummy". This really surprised me. My response was "Really? Wow!....(how do I handle this?) That's great! Kinda like Hayes grew in my tummy, huh? Well, you have to eat really good and finish your veggies to grow a healthy baby". Silence. I could tell by her face that she couldn't even fathom how veggies got thrown into this conversation. Then she continued to tell me that her baby was a boy. His name is Carly (sorry Shel, but at least she loves your baby enough to name her baby the same!) and that she was going to be his sister. Such a cute conversation. Such a funny little girl.
Today's topic was about Spiritual Gifts. I was fortunate enough to take a class at church this summer where I learned that my spiritual gifts are compassion, hospitality, and faith. If you haven't taken a spiritual gifts assessment, I recommend it. I haven't taken this assessment, but just to give you somewhere to start http://www.churchgrowth.org/cgi-cg/gifts.cgi?intro=1 . Maybe this will give some direction in how God wants to use you or give purpose to your life. Compassion wasn't a surprise to me. I never could watch those shows or movies where people got hurt because I felt badly for them. Even though they did it to themselves. You all know how I have a heart for rescuing animals. I also have a strong passion for people with or who have survived cancer. I'll get into that some other time.
Anyway...I sent several pictures to be uploaded to the blog last night because I really wanted to keep my promise of updating everything. I found out that none of them went through though. I'll have to spend some time figuring that out soon. I've also started a post dedicated to the 1st year of surgical residency. Maybe I can finish that up after 15 minutes of work. Do you see how I'm keeping my promise to communicate better? I'm really trying this time ;)

Back at it! (Again) Fall 2011

How many times have I had to renew my blogging vows?

Here we are again. Me committing to communicate more and you committing to continue to patiently follow. Give me one last chance, won't you?

If for no other reason, I at least need to continue to update about AGW and HLW as a way of documenting their childhood for them. I hope they do me the favor of acknowledging these posts one day. Of course, I can't forget our family and friends we've made along the way who check in on our great adventure. I can imagine that you check the blog less and less often and I know that sense of disappointment when you find the same post as the last time you ventured over. Then there's the medical community who follow to see what our journey looks like in hopes of getting a glance into their own future. Oh, the guilt I feel for letting y'all down! I'll update each of you every week. I promise!

The easiest way to begin is just by copying and pasting my facebook statuses. I'm much better at doing that because it's so accessible from my phone.

Thanks to Holly and Jill for motivating (or guilting) me back into blogging. Here's my public commitment to start back slowly updating the blog with a weekly post. Someone read it and hold me accountable :) I'll post a link after my 1st update..... (Today)

Gearing up for the Cincy Half Marathon! They may have to haul me to the hospital after, but I'm gonna cross that finish line! (October 22, 2011)

A true friend is one who will come over at 10 pm to clean piles of cement several feet high, clean inches of dust off your walls, wash everything in your kitchen, and vacuum over and over again, just so that I can enjoy my new renovation. Thank you isn't enough! (October 19, 2011)

Can't put into words how much I LOVE my new hole in the wall!!! I can keep any eye on the kids at all times and even catch them before getting into trouble. Thanks so much ! (October 19, 2011)

This is my birthday surprise!!!! I'm forever grateful to the Margarita Monday Crew for spending the afternoon and evening slaving to knock this wall down. Y'all are the BEST!!! (October 18, 2011)

The. Longest. Drive. EVER. Jeeze Louis, we live far, far away! (October 17, 2011)

AGW "Mom, God likes when we sing for Him...does He like Funky Town?" (October 10, 2011)

There is a precious 1YEAR OLD boy babbling on the baby monitor :) How should I spoil him rotten today???Happy Birthday Hayes Lane Watson!!! (October 6, 2011)

HLW loves his Momma SO much he's been waking up at 4 a.m. just to see me. (September 30, 2011)

My pajama bottoms are way too big. I should've thought of that before grabbing my BB gun and chasing a bully cat down the street. I should've also considered that someone may call the cops about the crazy lady streaking/chasing a cat with a handgun. (September 28, 2011)

Ok, well that's about all I can get off of facebook for now. It doesn't exactly sum up where we are in this season of life so...

AGW started preschool last month and is going 3 afternoons a week. She has new teachers and a much larger class and hasn't handled the change as well as I thought she would. We're working through all of that to make school a very positive experience for her. She is still very tall for her age and slim. She's full of funny sayings and facial expressions and is very empathetic. However, sharing has become a bit of an issue lately because of her brother's sudden interest in EVERYTHING she does and has. She's very nurturing to Hayes and me and has such a sweet little soul. I'll try to upload videos tonight showcasing their dailyinteraction with each other. I find it very amusing, but I'm slightly biased.

HLW IS WALKING!!! And he's all over the place. Fast. He's also started babbling a lot in the last few weeks and loves to say "ball", "Kitty", "dog", "momma", and "dadda". I love hearing it. His temper continues to flourish and I can see that I'll have to figure out a way to handle that as it comes. He is all that is boy including dirt, climbing, throwing, wrestling, but also extremely sensitive and loving. He pretty much melts my heart.

Carey is surviving! That's the big question everyone always asks. He's currently finishing up the Surgical Intensive Care Unit rotation and has been surprised at the level of responsibility and lack of sleep he's gotten lately. He's been on call every 3 days and definitely works well beyond the 80 hour work week. He has permanent black rings around his eyes and can sleep any time, any place. We're both really looking forward to his upcoming research years. I'll devote an entire post to Carey in the very near future to elaborate on what he's been through and where we're headed. Until then just know that he lacks sleep, is over worked and under paid, and we all make the most of his time at home.

I've had trouble writing about myself here. I know that people are mostly interested in the kids or wondering if surgical residency is as glamorous as it appears on "Grey's Anatomy". I've decided to change that and include more about my role as a medical spouse, my running routine, and my random craft/DIY projects. So....I just ran my second half marathon. I set a goal to run a half marathon in every state before I die and I asked two of my Cincy friends to join me in that goal. Together Holly, Melissa, and I will run 49 more half marathons. We were all 3 at the race this past weekend so we can cross Ohio off our list. I believe we have our sights set on Chicago and Kentucky this spring and summer. I will also run the Flying Pig again. Last year I set a goal to run it every year that we are here. My run on Saturday was pretty much the most miserable run I've every experienced. I had had the stomach flu the day and night before and lost all fluids. I'll keep it clean and just say that I prayed throughout the entire run that "it" wouldn't come out both ends. God was faithful and gave me the ability and endurance to make it home. :)

This is where we are. I'll post pictures and videos t
